PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy applies to Personal Information that Shell Oil Products US and Motiva Enterprises LLC (collectively, “Shell”), obtains from you as a result of making the Shell Source website and program available to you.  Other Shell and/or Shell Affiliates’ websites and programs may contain privacy policies which are different from this Privacy Policy.  On your journey around Shell and/or Shell Affiliates’ websites and programs, please check the privacy policies of each website and program, and do not assume that this Privacy Policy applies to all Shell and/or Shell Affiliates’ websites and programs.  Please read this Privacy Policy and familiarize yourself with our privacy practices.  If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, you should not provide your Personal Information to Shell or register or use the Shell Source website.

Collection and Use of Personal Information

As used in this Privacy Policy, “Personal Information” means “User Provided” and “Automatically Collected” data as each term is defined below.

We collect Personal Information in two ways:

  • Information you provide us (“User Provided” data):
    • Name
    • Address
    • Phone number
    • Email address
  • Information we obtain from your use of our website and internet application (“Automatically Collected” data):
    • Details about your computers, devices, applications and networks (such as IP address, browser characteristics, device ID and characteristics, device operating system information and system language preferences)
    • Activities on our websites and usage patterns of products and services; referring URLs, dates and times of website visits, and information commonly recorded in web server logs
    • Details about Internet or network usage (such as the URLs or domain names of websites you visit, information about applications that attempt to access your network, or traffic data)

We use the Automatically Collected and/or User Provided information in order to:

  • Respond to queries or requests submitted by you;
  • Process transactions submitted by you;
  • Administer or otherwise carry out our obligations in relation to the Shell Source website;
  • Anticipate and resolve problems with the Shell Source website or any products or services supplied to you;
  • Better tailor and improve the features of the Shell Source website or products or services;
  • Communicate to you information about Shell products, services and programs;
  • Offer you other Shell products or services that may be of interest to you; and/or

Username and Password

Some portions of this Application may require you to log-in with a username and password.  Your log-in details are your responsibility.  You are fully accountable for any use or misuse of your account and personal details as a result of conveying your details to someone else.  You must maintain your log-in details in absolute confidentiality and avoid disclosing them to others.  You should change your password frequently and at least once every six months.  Shell may require from time to time additional or different means of identification and authentication for logging-in and accessing various Application features and services.

Cookies

The Shell Source website uses cookies. A cookie is a small text file that we send to your internet browser so that we are able to recognize your browser when you return. Cookies can collect data on the use of the website such as which pages are visited and the duration of a user session. When you use the website, the cookie sends data to Shell.

Shell does not retain a cookie longer than necessary. We use session cookies and permanent cookies:

  • A session cookie can track usage such as the webpages you visit and what options you use. When you close the internet browser, the session is ended, and the cookie is deleted.
  • A permanent cookie enables the website to recognize you at a subsequent visit.

Shell stores cookies that are essential in providing the functionalities of the website.  For instance, the cookies remember your preferences, such as language and region, which remain as your default settings when you revisit the website.  We will not use cookies to collect personal data about you.  However, should you wish to do so, you can choose to reject or block the cookies set by Shell or the websites of any third party suppliers by changing your browser settings – see the Help function within your browser for further details.

Please note that most browsers automatically accept cookies; therefore, if you do not wish cookies to be used, you may need to actively delete or block the cookies.

Third Party Access to Your Information

Any Personal Information may be supplied or transferred to Shell Affiliates or to third parties, such as in the following, non-exclusive list of situations:

  • As required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process;
  • When we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request;
  • With our trusted service providers who work on our behalf to provide us services, have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this Privacy Policy, and do not have an independent use of the information we disclose to them;
  • When you opt-in to receive offers from Shell Affiliates or third parties.

Use of Your Information Submitted to Other Applications or Websites

We cannot be responsible for the privacy policies and practices of other websites even if you accessed the third party website using links from our website or you linked to our website from a third party website.  We recommend that you check the privacy policy of each site you visit that site’s owner or operator if you have any questions or concerns.

Data Retention Policy and Managing Your Information

We will retain User Provided data for as long as you use the Shell Source website and for a reasonable time thereafter.  We will retain Automatically Collected information for a reasonable time and thereafter may store it in the aggregate.  If you would like us to delete User Provided data that you have provided Shell, please contact us via us via email at ssc@shell.com   We will delete such information within a reasonable time.  Please note that some or all of the User Provided data may be required in order for the Shell Source website to function properly for your use.

Children

Shell and our trusted service providers who work on our behalf to provide the Shell Source website do not knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13.  If you are under the age of 13, please do not send us your personal information, such as your name, address, email address, or telephone number.  If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without the parent or guardian’s consent, please contact us via email at ssc@shell.com   We will delete such information within a reasonable time.

Accuracy of Information

We aim to keep our information about you as accurate as possible.  If you would like to review or change any User Provided data, please contact us via email at ssc@shell.com

Security

We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information.  We provide physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information we process and maintain, and we will update these measures, if appropriate, as new technology becomes available.  Please be aware that, although we endeavor to provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason.  If we make any substantial changes to this Privacy Policy, including but not limited to the way in which we use your Personal Information, we will post the changes on this page and will do our best to notify you of any such changes.  You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes.

Your Consent

By providing information to us or using the Shell Source website and our services, you are consenting to our processing of User Provided and Automatically Collected information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us.  “Processing,” means using cookies on a computer / hand held device or using or touching information in any way, including, but not limited to, collecting, storing, deleting, using, combining and disclosing information, all of which activities may take place in the U.S. or in other countries around the globe.  By using the Shell Source website and providing information to us, you consent to such transfer and processing of data according to the locally applicable privacy standards.
